Best Time to Visit Andaman Islands

One of India's most popular tropical travel locations is the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which are nestled in the Bay of Bengal. Imagine immaculate white sand beaches, glistening turquoise oceans, thick rainforests, and a coral reef ecosystem that will astound snorkelers and divers. However, like with any island vacation, the time of your visit is crucial.

October through May is the ideal time to visit the Andaman Islands because of the clear skies, calm sea, and unrestricted access to the islands. This window gives you plenty of options based on your travel preferences and budget, spanning from the lovely early winter months to the warm summer shoulder season.

June to September is monsoon season. During this time, the islands become remarkably lush and green, although ferry services and other water-based activities may be disrupted by heavy rainfall and choppy seas. Although off-season travelers who desire seclusion and cheaper prices do visit, it is often not the best time for a full vacation.

Andaman Islands weather and climate

Andaman Islands Weather and Climate

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a tropical environment that is warm, humid, and lush all year round due to its proximity to the equator. Regardless of the month, the average temperature is between 23°C and 31°C, so you won't ever be really cold or extremely hot. Rainfall, the state of the water, and the general appropriateness of outdoor activities all undergo substantial seasonal variations.

There are two distinct seasons that shape travel to Andaman: the dry season and the monsoon season. Understanding each one will help you pick the right time based on what you want to do and how you like to travel.

Dry Season (November to April) Peak Travel Window

This is hands-down the best season to visit Andaman. From November through April, the weather is at its most agreeable clear blue skies, low humidity, calm seas, and excellent underwater visibility. Temperatures hover comfortably between 23°C and 30°C, making it easy to spend full days outdoors without feeling drained by the heat.

The sea is at its calmest during these months, which means inter-island ferry services run reliably and water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, and sea walking are operating at their best. If exploring Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep), or the more remote outer islands is on your list, this is the season to do it.

Month-by-Month Breakdown

October

October marks the end of the monsoon. Pleasant weather, calmer seas, and fewer tourists make it a great month before the peak season begins.

November

November brings clear skies, calm waters, and pleasant temperatures. It is an excellent month for sightseeing, island hopping, beaches, and outdoor adventures.

December

December offers sunny days, cool evenings, and crystal-clear waters. It is perfect for scuba diving, snorkeling, beach holidays, and festive celebrations.

January

January is one of the best months to visit. Comfortable weather and vibrant festivals make every island experience even more enjoyable.

February

February continues with sunny weather and calm seas. It is ideal for honeymooners, water sports, relaxing beaches, and romantic island escapes.

March

March remains warm and pleasant with fewer crowds. Water activities continue, making it a great time for a peaceful island vacation.

April

April becomes warmer with rising humidity. Lower hotel prices and quieter beaches make it a good choice for budget-friendly travel.

May

May brings occasional showers and humid weather. Early visits are enjoyable, though changing weather signals the arrival of the monsoon season.

Monsoon Season (June to September) Off-Season

The monsoon arrives in Andaman typically by late May or early June and dominates through September. Rainfall is heavy and frequent, seas become rough, and a significant number of water activities and inter-island ferry routes are either suspended or run irregularly due to safety concerns.

That said, the islands during monsoon have a completely different character. The forests are intensely green, waterfalls appear across the hills, and the islands feel genuinely remote and untouched. Tourist numbers are minimal, hotel rates drop substantially, and those who do visit often speak of a very peaceful, unhurried experience.

However, if your goal is to swim, dive, island-hop, or spend time on the beach, the monsoon months are not the right choice. Some islands also restrict visitor access during this period for safety reasons. We generally advise waiting for October if flexibility allows.

Monsoon Month Snapshot

June

Monsoon conditions heavy rainfall, strong winds, rough seas making water activities unsafe and ferry travel frequently disrupted discouraging leisure trips.

July

The wettest month brings intense rainfall, very low tourist activity, and resorts operating limited services or remaining completely closed across islands.

August

Monsoon persists with occasional breaks though unreliable. The landscape becomes lush and green but outdoor activities remain restricted and travel conditions limited.

September

Monsoon late September reducing rainfall frequency and improving conditions though weather remains unpredictable and not fully suitable for holidays yet.
